Bimbo Akintola (born 5 May 1973) is a Nigerian actress. She is best known for her roles in Owo Blow (1995), Out of Bounds (1997), 93 Days (2016), and The Black Book (2023).

Akintola won ‘Best Actress in Nigeria’ in 1997 and ‘Best Actress Award’ for the movie Heaven’s Hell at the 2015 Eko International Film Festival. She plays Toyin in the television series Husbands of Lagos.

Early life

Bimbo Akintola was born on 5 May 1973 in Ibadan, Oyo State. Her father is from Oyo State, and her mother hails from Edo State, Nigeria. She is the third of six children.

Growing up in Maryland, Lagos, she loved acting. She started performing for the school’s end-of-year theater events. She also performed on weekends with the late Jaiye Aboderin in the club Divine on Allen Avenue in Lagos while in school.

Education

Akintola attended Maryland Convent Private School and Command Day Secondary School in Lagos State. She studied Theater Arts at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

Career

Bimbo made her acting debut as Mope Owolabi in the 1995 film Owo Blow alongside Femi Adebayo. She later played Adetutu in the 1997 film Out of Bounds with Richard Mofe Damijo.

In 2004, she appeared in the films Last Wedding, Schemers: Bad Babes, Separate Lives, and Images in the Mirror. She starred as Omowunmi in the film Comatose (2019), shot and produced in South Africa.

Bimbo portrayed Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh alongside Hollywood legend, Danny Glover, in 93 Days.

Her outstanding role earned her awards and nominations. She was a nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2013 Nollywood Movies Awards. She won the “Best Actress Award” for the movie Heaven’s Hell at the 2015 Eko International Film Festival.

She won the “Best Actress of the Year” at AFRIFF 2016 for portraying the late Dr Stella Adadevoh and “Best Actress or English Actress” in Nigeria in 1997.

In 2025, she starred as Inspector Mo Ogunlesi in the 8-episode Netflix series To Kill a Monkey.

Aside from acting, she is also a lecturer. She is the Head and Faculty Lecturer (Acting) at Broadway Movie Academy (BMA).

Personal Life

Bimbo Akintola is currently single. She lost her partner and has since decided to remain single until she can find an “ideal partner”.
