Abimbola “Bimbo” Oshin (born 24 July 1971) is an actress, producer, writer, and businesswoman. She is best known for playing Biola in the 2012 Yoruba film Omo Elemosho.

Bimbo has appeared in Yoruba and English Nollywood movies. She played Biola in Akobi (1997), Salewa in Omo Ghetto (2010), and Yeye in Kakanfo (2020).

Early life

Bimbo Oshin was born on 24 July 1971 in Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria, to Pa Olasanmi Theophilus Oshin. She has seven siblings and is the second-to-last child of her parents.

She fell in love with acting at a tender age. She started doing minor drama in the house with her elder sibling, in which they recorded their pseudo videos.

Education

Bimbo Oshin went to Saint Anne’s Primary School before completing at Staff Primary School in Ile Ifẹ, Osun State.

She attended the Girls Academy on Sandgrouse in Lagos State for her secondary education. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos.

Career

In 1996, a friend’s sister introduced her to Rasaq Ajao’s theatre group, Ara Osan. She joined the group, began rehearsals, and spent four years training under him. She later featured in her first major movie titled Akobi in 1997.

Since 2003, she has acted in other films, including Eji Owuro and Civil War. She also appeared in Omo Oku Oron in 2004, Ota in 2007, Igi Ola Mi in 2008, and Omo Elemosho in 2012. She played the character Yeye in the 2020 film Kakanfo. She also produced the Yoruba movie titled Òwú ìyá.

Bimbo played Princess Gladys Olubo in the 2020 film The New Patriots and Bolade in the 2021 film Abebi. She also appeared as Ronke in the 2021 Yoruba film Alimi and as Toyin in the drama film Strangers.

Her roles have earned her several nominations, including Best Actress in a Leading Role at the third edition of the annual Yoruba Movies Academy Awards (YMAA). She was also nominated for Best Actress of the Year (Yoruba) at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2014.

Bimbo was also nominated for the ‘Best Actor Indigenous Female’ award at the 2015 edition of ZAFAA. She was honoured with an Icon Category Award at the 2016 Afro-Heritage Broadcasting and Entertainment Awards.

Personal Life

Bimbo Oshin was married to music promoter Ola Ibironke, popularly known as Dudu Heritage. They had two children, Michael Olusegun and Iyanuoluwa. Sadly, her husband passed away in September 2021 after collapsing at the Ibadan Golf Club.
