Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (born 3 March 1957), known professionally as K1 De Ultimate, is a Nigerian Fuji musician. He has released iconic Fuji hits across several decades, including Ade Ori Okin, Oju Eni Ma La, Igbayida, Awade, Vivid Imagination, and Talazo ’84, among others.

Early Life

Wasiu Omogbolahan Olasunkanmi Adewale Ayinde Marshal was born on 3 March 1957 in Agarawu, Lagos State. His father comes from Ijebu Ode, and his mother comes from Ilupeju in Ondo State.

Marshal became interested in music at the age of eight. His parents had opposed it, but he kept pursuing his passion and won several local music competitions by the time he was 15.

Career

At age 18, Ayinde left secondary school to join the Supreme Fuji Commanders, a band led by Ayinde Barrister, from 1975 to 1978, after serving as an instrument packer.

After a short working stint with Barrister, Wasiu decided to start his group, Wasiu Ayinde and his Fuji Revolution. He released his debut album “Iba”, which included the track “Abode Mecca”, in 1980.

Ayinde also released another album, “Talazo ’84” in 1984. He has released other hits, ‘Talazo in London’ and ‘Jo Fun Mi’. He is celebrated for popularising the Talazo Fuji style.

In 1995, he gave the first Fuji performance at WOMAD Festival and has also performed at Troxy, WOMEX and SOB’s.

Marshal started his international tour between North America and Europe in 1986. He held a performance at Hammersmith Town Hall in 1987. He also performed with the full Talazo Band in New York City on 28 September 1990.

He has also gone on other tours, including London Yuppie 1 and 2 Nights (1991-1992, a European tour in 1995, and a Berlin tour in 1997. He also toured North America in 1998, Canada in 2000, and the United States in 2003.

Ayinde has released over 80 albums and many hits, including Solo, Abode Mecca, Ara-Edide, Ro Ra Se, and Vivid Imagination.

He has also been recognised with many titles and music awards. He was named Badabarawu of Ogijo in 1985, Ekerin Amuludun of Ibadanland in 1986, and Golden Mercury of Africa Title in 1986.

He was also recognised with Honoris Causa of Music at St. John University, USA, in 1989 and was crowned the King of Fuji (Oluaye Fuji Music) at NTA Ibadan in 1993.

In 1999, Ayinde was named the Oluomo of Lagos by King Adeyinka Oyekan. He was later installed by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, as the first Mayegun of Yorubaland in 2020.

He received the Headies Hall of Fame Award in 2013 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from City People in 2014.

He was officially conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by President Muhammadu Buhari on 11 October 2022. He was crowned the Olori Omo Oba Akile Ijebuland by HRM Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona (Ogbagba II) Awujale of Ijebuland.

Personal Life

Wasiu Ayinde was previously married to Shalewa. He later married Yewande, who lives in Canada and shares five children with him.

He married Fathia ‘Titi Marshal’ Titilola in a ceremony in Ijebu-Ode in March 2018, but they later separated. They reunited during his mother’s burial in Ijebu, Ogun State. He later married Emmanuella Aderopo on 18 November 2021 in a lavish ceremony at the Palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Ake, Abeokuta.

Sadly, his former wife, Alhaja Hafsat Ajoke Anifowoshe, passed away in 2025. He has fathered about 40 children through relationships with many women, though he did not marry all his children’s mothers.

His mother, Halima Anifowoshe, passed away in 2025.
