Dele Odule (born 23 November 1961) is a Nigerian film actor, producer, and playwright. He is best known for his role in the 1993 film Ti Oluwa Nile.

The veteran actor has appeared in many films, including Mosope (2004), Ada Omo Daddy (2023), Seven Doors (2024), and Agesinkole 2: King of Thieves (2025). He won Best Supporting Actor (Yoruba) for his role in Kori-Koto at the 2014 Best Of Nollywood Awards (BON).

Early life

David Odubamidele Odule was born on 23 November 1961 in Oru-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area, Ogun State, to Abel and Anike Odule. He grew up in Fanafonmu, a village near Oru.

He is the sixth child of his parents but lost both of his parents at a tender age. His environment drew him to acting because of the many activities in the area, as he watched people dance, drum, and sing.

Education

Odule attended St. Mark Anglican Primary School, Falafonmu. He studied at Itamerin Secondary Modern School, Oru, Ijebu before gaining admission into Muslim Teacher Training College in 1980. He holds a Grade II Certificate from the Teacher’s Training College.

He obtained a diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan (UI). He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the Onabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.

Career

Odule started as a theatre artiste with Dele Ogunsanya in 1977. He met Ogunsanya while he was in modern school. After his studies, he joined Abaru Oloko Theatre Group, led by Mukaila Adebisi Oloko, in 1978.

During his studies at Teacher Training College, he met Deji Adenuga and Yomi Faleye (Osagie). The three collaborated to form Yomi-Odus Theatre Group, which disbanded after three years.

He relocated to Abeokuta in 1983, and the veteran actor Olatubosun Odunsi discovered him and invited him to join Bosun Theatre Group. They appeared in many television series together, including Eleti-Ofe, which aired on BCOS and Baba Amoye on OGTV.

Odule made his first appearance in a home video movie in Agbebo Adiye, after transitioning from live stage theatre performances. He later starred in the Mainframe’s production Ti Oluwa Ni Ile. In 1996, he became the ANTP Vice President, serving under President Chief Jimoh Aliu.

From 2005 to 2006, Odule served on the National Film Policy Review and later joined the Motion Picture Practitioners Council of Nigeria (MOPICON) Review Committee.

In 2006, he served as the ANTP National Deputy President to Prince Jide Kosoko. He became president of the Theatre and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) in December 2014.

In 2013, Odule produced the stage play Lanke Omu to honour the 40th anniversary of Kola Ogunmola’s death, with sponsorship from the Ekiti State Government.

Odule has played many roles, including as a Palace Chief in King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos (2026), Baba Sura in IWE ALA (An Ojude Oba Story) (2026), Reverend Kuffor in Reverend Titus (2025), and Samu in Èwò (Forbidden) (2025). He has also appeared in Trade by Bata (2025), Finding Me (2025), and Seven Doors (2024).

Odule has won several local and international awards. In 2015, he became the first Yoruba actor to receive the Distinguished Visitor’s Award from the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida. He won the Best Supporting Actor (Yoruba) award for his role in Kori-Koto at the 2014 Best of Nollywood Awards (BON).

Dele received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards for his outstanding contributions to Nollywood. He has also worked with and promoted many brands. He is an ambassador for Airtel Nigeria.
